Some Finishes

I wasn't actually going to post again so soon, but I've managed to finish so many things since my last post!





It's even more beautiful now that it's all backstitched.



A closer look at that sidebar thingy! It was reaaaaally hard to backstitch, since thread does weird things when there are two or more threads instead of just one. But I think it looks rather good!



I don't know why this one took me so long to finish up. Something about running out of black, I think? But I finally got around to buying another skein, so yay.



And speaking of buying more skeins of thread, I stopped working on this one quite a while back because I ran out of the golden yellow. It's another one where I had to stitch with more than one thread in the backstitches, so I hope it looks alright... when I finally finished it, I checked my cross stitch journal to see how long I'd been working on this one. It looks like I started it in or before the year 2008! Sheesh. I'm glad to finally have it done, but it's rather astonishing to think I've been doing this hobby for a decade (this wasn't the first thing I stitched, I don't actually remember when I started but I digress), haha. I know plenty of you have done it longer, but it's still rather impressive to me that I've stuck with it for so long.

I'm also amazed at myself and I've only been doing it since January 2014. I remember exactly because it was shortly after we moved into this house. :) I see no end in sight, happily. So many projects, so little time. The cat book shelf is awesome, I just now noticed the book titles! :D

I'm glad I seem to be sticking with it myself. Sometimes I lose interest for a little while, but I always seem to come back to it sooner or later!

Haha, yes the book titles are the best part. Some of them aren't as clear as I'd like but the ones that are a little harder to read include 'Bye Bye Birdie', 'Caterbury Tales', 'Corporate Fat Cats', and 'Catalog of Hairballs'.

They're beautiful - I particularly love the cat on the bookshelf one and am very impressed by it being worked on black - I'm having real difficulty with one at the moment that's worked on dark blue as the night sky and finding the correct holes to make the stitches. I don't think I'll be tackling anymore on darker fabrics, no matter how much the subject tempts.

Have you tried laying a white or yellow towel or pillowcase across your lap (or whatever underneath your stitching would be)? Helps the the holes show up more than you think it would.

Oooh, no I've never come across that idea before - I'll give it a go as I would like to finish the one I'm part way through eventually. I was actually thinking that what I needed was more of a spotlight to shine on it as I was working, but that would be a far cheaper and easier option to try first! *\0/* thank you.

Stitching on black is a pain! I actually have another project right now that I'm trying to convince myself to work on, it's a gorgeous tiger on a black background. I need to remember that white pillow case trick myself, it's going to make stitching this bad boy a whole lot easier.

Yessss, I'm so glad I finally got that one done. It's nice to get some finishes under my belt in general, really, but I'm especially glad to get long-term projects finished.

That one was fun to make, it really was. I still don't know why it took me 8 freaking years to buy some yellow thread /shakes head.

I'm on the finishing steps for two projects - maybe if I bribe myself with posting them here I can get going and backstitch away.

Haha, yeah. I think it was a pretty popular kit for a while (or maybe it still is?) because I remember people commenting how they did it before or they're working on it right now, when I posted it on another cross stitch site.
