I don't do too much cross stitch, but what I do I generally design myself. Nothing too huge or fancy. I like designing on paper most, so I can turn sketches into stitches, so I'm going to share my favorite resource for making graph paper suitable for designing smaller cross stitches (ie, design fits on one sheet of regular paper):

Multi-Width Graph Paper PDF Generator
Multi-Width Graph Paper with extra left border PDF Generator

If you don't feel like fiddling around with those settings, I've uploaded my favorite grid layout. It's 10 to the inch--small enough to be fairly compact but big enough to be usable. There are thicker lines every five squares to help you keep track. There's an extra left border for notes, and the lines are all faded grey to make your design easier to see.
