Temperature Map 2018

I spent 2018 stitching the local weather. Each block represents the high temperature for that day and each color represents a five degree span.



Highs for 2018 ranged from 2°F on January 1 to 96°F on May 27.

Since we never got above 100°F or below 0°F, there are still five colors on the chart I never got to use, so I’m just going to do this again next year on the other half of this plastic canvas.

Thanks. I like the parts where the colors change abruptly as a front comes through, and where there's one lone block of color in a sea of a different color range.

This is really cool! Now I'm debating whether to do something similar, not that I need yet another project... lol.

I'd been putting off doing it for a couple of years myself. I wasn't going to do it last year either, but then a front came through on January 11 that dropped the temperature 35 degrees in about 2 hours and I wanted to see what that looked like. You can see it at the beginning of the third row where the color goes from light green directly to dark blue.

And the best part is that after you get the top row in, you never have to count again. You just line up each block with the one above it.

I love this so much! I've seen it in knitting and crochet and wondered how it would adapt to cross-stitch. Now I know, and it's awesome.

I'd seen it in quilting (and it looked amazing). I had also seen a few people start to cross stitch it, but none of them posted a year-end picture, so I was wondering what it would look like too.

This is extremely cool! I have seen this done in quilting, so I was wondering why yours was the opposite of what I'd seen (reds at the top and bottom, blue/green in the middle) then I realised! Opposite hemispheres!

I had the same reaction when I saw a quilt with the cool colors in the middle. I admit to being curious as to what a continuous winter would look like here, but not curious enough to break up a year to see.

This is amazing! Please do it again for 2019. I’d love to see two years side by side! I love that you can “feel” the seasons just looking at it.

I definitely plan to do it again this year. It should be interesting. This January is starting off 30 degrees warmer than last January.

It's actually not too bad if you're doing the current year, as opposed to your birth year or something where all the days have already occurred. I subscribe to some YouTube channels that regularly put out 10-15 minute videos, so I just put one on and stitch that day's block.

I really love this! I wonder if it would interesting to have two side by side columns, one with the high and one with the low.

The plastic canvas I'm using came 2 sheets to a pack, so I was thinking that for 2020 I would do the high and low temperatures with the lows directly below the highs. It should make for an interesting contrast in the spring and fall when the difference can be as much as 40 degrees.
