Bookmarks, Butterfly

Okay I found those bookmarks so here's the image heavy post I promised last time.









I'm not sure what flowers these are.



Or these... they're not peonies, are they?



I really like that they didn't go for poinsettias. Poinsettias are beautiful, don't get me wrong, but as a December baby I at least get kind of tired of them after a while. Why couldn't we get Christmas Cactus as our flower? At least that's actually a flower...

Anyway...



This is the one I'm starting now, but... well, it's off center. I have no idea how this happened. And I don't mean a little, I counted and one margin is where the tip of my thumb touches that crease and the other is where my needle is stuck in the cloth. It will be extremely noticeable.

I'm seriously considering ripping it out and starting over, as frustrating as that always is... but I don't have a lot of certain colors that I've used on the butterfly. I don't know if I can do that, much as I want to... /sigh.

I might just go for it and hope for the best... I really don't like doing frogging unless I absolutely have to, like most people I would assume.

I'm very much of the 'ah, we can work with this' school of avoiding frogging, particularly with embroidery, because i find that the cloth just doesn't sit right for me. (crochet I'll frog. Knitting I avoid at all costs). And the amount of margin on the left *looks* fine from here!

Yeah, I am going ahead and working with the situation I've got, it should be ok and it's waaaay better than ripping it all out.

I love the bookmarks. I love the birth flower/language of the flowers-type lore. I had to look up October -- it's marigold.

As for the second one, will the margin difference be noticeable when you frame it? I am with you, it would be frustrating to have to rip all of that out.

Yeah, I love this sort of thing too, not just flowers but any monthly thing. Flowers are especially gorgeous though. Thanks for the info!

I don't think it would be, and I've just about decided to go for it and hope for the best. I was a little concerned that a framer wouldn't be able to work with such little fabric, but I'll just have to hope it will be fine.

A decent framer should have no problems with an inch of fabric, I think.

Those are beautiful! Could that one flower be a geranium?

And why not just keep going with what you've got, and when you're finished, cut off the excess margin? It shouldn't even show once it's framed. Unless you've got a top/bottom margin problem as well that won't leave you with any margin at all.

I think the top/bottom margins should be ok; I haven't counted it but it looks ok as the middle, eyeballing it. I feel confident in that method of measuring since that's how I figured out the side-to-side was off. I'm pretty hesitant to just cut things off like that without good reason; I suppose we'll see how it looks when I'm done. If it bothers me too much then, maybe.

From a kit! Google tells me it's Bucilla Counted Cross Stitch Kit Flowers Of The Month Bookmarks kit, and you can probably find it at nearly any store that sells cross stitch kits (or at least the last time I was at a Jo Ann's I saw one) and I also found it being sold online.

image hosting issue?

Hi

I've just come back to look at your bookmarks, and all the images are showing with an image that says "Please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting", rather than the bookmark images.

Yeah... Photobucket has decided to mess the bed and make people pay $400 a year out of nowhere to allow 3rd party hosting. I'm trying to find a good place to put my pictures, and hopefully I'll be able to put them back here after that.

Sorry, you'll have to put up with these awful placeholder things until then :( Hopefully I'll find something soon, but you know... other things get in the way, like life.

wow, that is decidedly crappy on their part. Good luck with finding somewhere to host them. If it is useful - I use Flickr, which appears to be absolutely fine. A little finicky with getting the code to link to them, but I don't think I've had problems (now I'm going to have to work out when I last actually put a picture in a DW post, and check!)

ETA: looks like my linked Flickr hosted pics are still working (see this post if an example is useful)

Thank you! I will see about starting to transfer my images there, at least I got them all off PB without much trouble.
