Someone I know is in hospital and likely to be there for a while. It's serious, but curable. I thought I'd send her a card and then I got ambitious. I'm actually mighty pleased with the result in my own modest way.

I got this bowl of pansies for free from DMC's site. The hospital doesn't allow real flowers, so I thought it fitting to stitch her some. I hope it will cheer her up a bit.
I stitched the design on 14 hpi aida with two strands, one strand for backstitch. Then I attached it with double sided tape to the purple card and finally made the running stitch border with four strands.
Things I have learned:
-Half stitches. Not a fan. Argh! The backstitch on this design has loads of them.
-A felting needle is excellent for pre-poking holes in the card for the running stitch I put around the edge.
-When doing running stitch, try to avoid to do it through the double sided tape. My needle and my fingers got all sticky!
-It feels ultra-strange and wrong to use four strands at the same time.
Additionally, my Husband is interested in 3D printing. I asked him to make me a thread sorter. I'm not keen on those made of card. They feel so flimsy to me.

This one is two millimeters thick and has no sharp edges. I'm such a lucky girl :)

Date: 2016-03-20 02:03 pm (UTC)Thank you. :) Husband has made me a couple more since then. I asked him to make the holes a little larger and he made another which is two holes longer. And I'm still short for my current project. :) I need a system for when I'm done with a project but haven't used the colour up, really, so I can free up some more holes. Haven't really worked that out yet.
